Great location, 5 min walk from Birmingham New Street Station, close to the Bullring, shops and restaurants. We came here for the Utilta Arena which is about 15 mins walk away. Could not fault this hotel, we've stayed in lots over the years and this one is up there with the best, great amenities, clean room, comfortable bed and very friendly and helpful staff. A relaxed atmosphere, 24hr access to buy food for your room (extremely welcomed after being at a large gig) and a varied complimentary breakfast. My husband also commented on how impressed he was with the lifts, we were on the 9th floor.. very rapid!

The hotel building and decor is very nice and everything was comfortable. Special shout-out to the gentleman manning the door and bar late at night. He was by far one of the most attentive, friendliest and engaging individuals I have come across in the hospitality industry in the UK. We felt so at home after returning from our concert. Easy place to walk from to get to the Utilita Arena, passing loads of restaurants and bars.

FAQs about hotels in Birmingham

Top-Class Shopping, Culture and Sport

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centres. Well-known for the M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it is a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.

Most city centre hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping centre, and just behind is Digbeth Coach Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.

The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Centre) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.

Just opposite is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modelled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.

The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top football clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.

We went to Birmingham to see Michael McIntyre at The Utilita Arena .We stayed overnight but would have liked an extra night .We visited The Kitty Cafe which was lovely ,there is an £8 charge per adult and a lesser charge for children to spend one hour in the cafe ,but this money goes towards the cats ,who are rescue cats looking for a new home .We loved the canal area ,which was popular with loads of pubs and restaurants. We had lovely Tapas in the Bullring at lunchtime .We eat at Bistro Pierre by the canal in the evening which was enjoyable .

People are so friendly and the busy centre is vibrant and varied. The canals make a lovely walking route through the centre making everything easily accessible. We ate at Jimmy Spice, an all you can eat buffet, but the food was of much higher quality than I have experienced at other similar restaurants. We both had a great time!

We landed at Birmingham airport at 2am and arrived at the hotel at around 3am. There was a 24 hour reception so this was no problem. The room was exactly what we needed - somewhere to sleep that was clean and convenient. It was about a 15 min drive from the airport but was a fraction of the cost of the airport hotels. Parking was £8 for 24 hours but as we arrived in the early hours, it meant we could go into Birmingham in the morning as the car was safely parked and paid for.

Have stayed in a few hotels recently that claimed to have gyms but when you got there they turned out to be a room with a couple of cardio’s and some lightweight dumbbells. They didn’t even have air condition. This hotel however had a really well equipped gym. And it was air-conditioned and a real joy to work out in. Everything you needed was there. I have stayed and quite a few Birmingham city centre hotels and this is definitely the one with the best fitness centre.

Harold's House was the ideal choice for my 5 night stay in Birmingham. Knowing I would be out from early morning until late evening all I required was a bed, bathroom, (and WiFi). Full kitchen facilities were also available, but I did not use these. Why pay excessive hotel costs to subsidise things I would not be using; bar, restaurant, gym, pool, etc. Harold's House provided all that I needed from my stay with much better value for money.
